My husband has been a teacher for 15 years and in those 15 years he’s received tons of mugs/cups as gifts. Nice, but you only have so much shelf space to put them. In our household we are really into the personalized unique gifts.
Zach’s teacher loves gardening so for Teacher Appreciation Week this year we made a “Garden in a Box”. Our favorite garden seeds are Botanical Interests which you can buy direct or at your local Armstrong. I picked seeds that we’ve had great success with in our garden. We also included some pretty gloves and seed starting mix and put it inside a brown book-style box.
Here are the materials:
- Darice Book-shaped Box
- Dr. Earth Organic and Natural Root Zone Seed Starting Mix
- Botanical Interests Organic Seeds
- Avery Inkjet White Full Sheet Labels, Permanent Adhesive, TrueBlock (8465)
- Floral gardening gloves (any design you think is pretty!)
- 1 sheet of cardstock
- 1 sandwich sized ziploc bag
The only “work” you’ll need to do is create a 6×9.25″ label using the Avery full sheet permanent labels, and also make a bag topper or label for the ziploc full of dirt. Oh and put the dirt into the bag too. 🙂

A note about the Avery Inkjet White Full Sheet Labels: I ALWAYS keep a pack of these in my office. They are super useful for customizing gifts or just making labels for things around the house. I buy small cardboard in bulk so I can use them throughout the year for gifts. Make sure you buy the permanent ones or they won’t stick to cardboard.
Put everything inside the box and tie it with a ribbon or twine. You may need to adjust the amount of soil if it doesn’t all fit, depending on how big your gloves are. My son also included a note of thanks inside the box.
